The best file managers for Android

The best file managers for Android.
File managers are among the most important applications for your mobile devices. Someone will say: “But why, because you can easily do without them!”. The fact is that with their help you can not only view your files, find downloads and manage your disk space. But also do a lot of other things. Work with archives or upload massive files? Please! Create new subsections on the memory card: No problem! Read e-books? Easy! Believe me, having used a third-party file manager at least once, you simply won’t want to return to the built-in Android program with similar functionality.

Amaze File Manager – A cheeky newbie

Amaze File Manager is a fairly “young” application that works quite well. Amaze File Manager is an open source program that is positioned as an easy-to-learn and reliable program for everyday use. Made in the style of Material Design, the interface really looks pretty nice. And in addition to the ability to manage files and disk space, here you can, for example, delete applications without leaving the main screen and work with archived data.

Astro File Manager – Timeless classic

Astro is one of the oldest file managers for Android. It has had its ups and downs over the years, but Astro File Manager has always been a good choice for those who love functionality. For example, there is support not only for SD cards, but also for cloud storage, file compression algorithms, application management, and the ability to extract archives (ZIP and RAR).

FX File Manager – The Swiss Army Knife of the world of file managers

FX File Manager has all the usual features for a program of this kind. But among other things, there is also support for external media, multi-window mode, the ability to work with network storage like FTP, as well as built-in encryption tools. Well, if this is not enough for you, then a text editor is also at your service. Oh, yes, here, on top of everything else, there is also no built-in advertising, which is often the sin of “colleagues in the shop.”

MiXplorer Silver – More than just a program

We suggest not to list all the functions mentioned above for the fourth time (they are here, of course) and concentrate on the unique features of the program. Namely, an HTML editor and support for not the most common EPub, MobiPacket and PDF formats, which allows you to fully work with almost any text files. There are also a bunch of plugins in stock that add even more functionality as needed. Prolay generator, PDF editing, graphics editor. You will find almost everything you need here.

The best programs for creating reminders

The best programs for creating reminders.
No matter how perfect your memory is, it is very difficult to keep everything in your head and often we forget something. Especially if we are talking about something not too important, but something that is rather disappointing to miss. It has long been known that in order not to forget anything, you need to make lists of important things and things to do. Someone, for example, uses notepads for notes or pastes everything around with a ton of colorful stickers. But we have almost “got” to 2023 and paper is the last century. Or even the year before. Moreover, on Android smartphones you will find a bunch of applications that will help you not to forget anything and not to be late for important meetings.

Signal Private Messenger – Safe and Convenient
Signal Private Messenger uses advanced end-to-end encryption to protect all messages and is completely free and fairly easy to use. The best thing about this private messaging app is that it is open source. Thus, cybersecurity experts are free to check the application code for any flaws. There are also other features such as encrypted voice calls, group chats, media transfer, and files. All this, as you understand, is also encrypted.
Download: Signal Private Messenger
Threema – Excellent, but there is one caveat
The only thing that can scare you away when using Threema is that it is paid. In addition to powerful end-to-end encryption technologies, messages sent from the application are immediately deleted from the servers after they are delivered to the interlocutor. The application uses different cryptographic libraries that are regularly updated and “shuffled” to make messages almost harder to crack.
Download: Threema
Wickr Me – Leaves no traces

Wickr Me is another impressive encrypted messaging app. Repeating for the third time the functions that competitors already have does not make sense, so let’s focus on the unique features. The first is Shredder, which permanently deletes all your chats, media content, and files from your device. The second is an “expiration timer” for your messages, which self-destruct after being read or after a certain period of time.

Silence – Quieter than water, lower than grass

Silence uses Axolotl’s encryption protection to provide end-to-end encryption of not only messages, but also phone numbers and user accounts. It is important to note that Silence can send encrypted data even if the application is not installed on the recipient’s smartphone. In this case, it is converted into a regular SMS.

Dust – Communicate without problems

Dust does not store messages in persistent storage, and you can even set your chats to be destroyed as soon as the conversation is over. That being said, it’s funny that the authors of Dust have added an option that tells you to find out if the user you’re chatting with has taken a screenshot. In addition, Dust is also a social network and allows you to communicate with a mass of users without fear of leaking something important.

How to make Android icons square

How to make Android icons square. If earlier it was still possible to argue about which is cooler in terms of the appearance of the operating system – Android or iOS, now both “axes” look equally good, having their own advantages and disadvantages. However, the Green Robot is good because it allows for almost complete customization. And if you do not want to radically change the look of the system through all sorts of launchers, then changing the icons is a great way out. But not just “pull” new skins on them, but make them square. This will greatly refresh the experience of working with your smartphone. Yes, and it will look extremely unusual.

Rifon – Style in a square

As you may have guessed by now, today we are going to tell you about the best icon packs, all of which have one thing in common – they are square. And the first contender is Rifon. This icon pack comes with thousands of different options to cover almost every application available. But, unfortunately, there is one drawback. The application is paid, albeit a damn beautiful one.

Goolors Square – Interface for every day

Another paid icon pack that gives you tons of customization options is Goolors Square. It comes with over 4600 icons in 192×192 resolution which is great for HD displays. The application also provides the ability to dynamically change icons at regular intervals so that the look of your OS is always new to you.

Voxel – Nothing more

The Voxel icon pack comes with nearly 5,000 icons split into 25 different categories to give you full control over how you customize your smartphone’s screen. In addition to this variety, you will also get HD wallpapers for the most complete screen customization.

Long Shadow Icon Pack – Hide and Embellish

Long Shadow Icon Pack covers over 3,000 apps and has dozens of options for each one. But the main feature of the program, perhaps, is not in this. And in that you can also use the icon masking feature. Thus, the program also acts as a tool that will hide certain applications of your choice from prying eyes.
Download: Long Shadow Icon Pack
Squared Icon Pack – Square World

The number of icons in the Squared Icon Pack is unimpressive compared to our other guests today, there are only 1800 of them. However, in addition to this set, you will receive a set of dynamic wallpapers that go well with the Squared Icon Pack. Fans of customization should like this approach.
Download: Squared Icon Pack
Minimal UI – Minimalism and beauty

Minimal UI offers a wide range of colorful and recognizable icons for your smartphone. In fact, the authors of the program simply “redrawn” ordinary icons, turning them into a square version of themselves. But the matter is not limited to this. In addition to over 2100 icons, it also offers black and white alternatives to flat icons. It looks dark, but wildly stylish.

Elta – Clean Design

Elta supports not only all major programs, but also perfectly “gets along” with third-party launchers. This means that you will have the opportunity not only to customize pure Android, but also its visually upgraded version. In addition, launcher lovers will not have to choose between their favorite skin and updating the icon design.

The best ASMR apps for Android

The best ASMR apps for Android. Some five years ago, ASMR content was of little interest to anyone. Today, ASMR is a whole genre with its fans and haters. It is generally accepted that, for the most part, content of this kind “dwells” only on the YouTube streaming platform. Although this is not true at all. Today we will tell you about some very interesting apps where you can find everything related to ASMR. Well, those who hear this abbreviation for the first time will also not leave offended, because we will also explain what it is and why it is needed.
Want to try ASMR on your smartphone?
What is ASMR
ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is the name given to the pleasant tingling sensation of the scalp. Simply put, imagine someone whispering in your ear or tickling you with a feather behind your ear. The sensation of ASMR can be described as a slight tingling sensation that starts in the head and slowly travels down the spine. Someone finds it very pleasant, and someone terribly annoying. In any case, until you personally try it, as they say, you will not understand. And here are the best places to do it. How do you feel about ASMR?.
Tingles – ASMR style social network

This application offers you content delivery similar to regular services like Spotify, where you can subscribe to certain artists and follow their releases. That is, in fact, between us is a fusion from a social network with a feed, publications, and so on, and a music application. There is a sorting of content into categories – “food”, “whisper”, “sounds” and so on. Here you can also choose to automatically play similar videos, repeat, and even play audio separately from the video. Tingles can also run in the background, and also has the ability to download tracks or videos for listening in conditions in which you do not have access to the network. The free version has ads, but you can turn them off for a small fee.
Download: Tingles
TeasEar – DIY

TeasEar offers a rather unusual experience – here you can create ASMR content yourself. The interface is a “slime” that covers the entire screen. By moving your fingers across the screen, you will control where the sound comes from. You can pinch, scratch, tap the goo, or use any form of touch to create a sound. There are also various presets that you can choose from to change the texture, color and sound and so on. At the same time, new presets appear regularly. But the authors have taken care of those who want to “just listen”. You can simply click on the play button, after which the program will start playing a random set of sounds. By the way, there is also the sound of bursting bubble wrap.
Download: TeasEar
Somnia – Relax and fall asleep

Somnia is more of a sleep app with an ASMR feature. That being said, Somnia is perhaps one of the best apps for those who want to understand what ASMR is. You are free to use different elements like rain, wind and so on to create your own unique ASMR composition. You can set the playback speed, set up channels for sound output (stereo or only one ear, or move sounds through channels, and so on), as well as turn on the timer and enjoy your creation.

How to learn to play the harmonica using your smartphone

How to learn to play the harmonica using your smartphone. Modern smartphones give us the opportunity to learn a bunch of things literally without getting up from the couch – the latest news, videos, movies and TV shows – everything is at your service. However, allow mobile devices and learn something new. For example, learn musical instruments. We already somehow touched on this topic regarding learning to play the guitar, but if this instrument seems too complicated for you, and even not the cheapest, because a good quality guitar costs a lot, then start with something simpler and cheaper. For example, from the harmonica. And convenient applications for learning will help you with this.
With the help of a smartphone, you can learn to play any musical instrument
Harmonica Easy Tab

Many refuse to learn this amazing musical instrument just because they do not have the necessary learning resource at their disposal. With this application, you start playing tunes, which are sorted according to difficulty levels – from beginner to professional. At the latest levels, you can play almost professional blues compositions. Agree, with this you can perfectly surprise your friends by playing at the party not the “classic” “Battery”, but something more extravagant. Yes, there are in-app purchases, but the initial levels are available for free, and after mastering them, it will be possible to decide whether you need “extra lessons” or not.
Download: Harmonica Easy Tab
Harmonica Lessons – Your personal music teacher

Harmonica Lessons is made primarily for those who almost see this musical instrument for the first time. There is a huge number of tutorials and lessons (including in video format) that you are invited to master. But not everything in the program is available offline. The same video tutorials require an active internet connection. Another exceptional feature is the section with cover versions of famous songs, adapted for harmonica, of course. Want to play “My heart will go on” from Titanic? No problem! And there are also several blues and jazz radio stations where you can listen to how the professionals handle the harmonica. Would you like to learn how to play the harmonica?

Harmonica Tab Pro – And the student will become a master

This application is perhaps one of the most advanced in this collection. Before choosing the song you want to learn how to play, you must choose whether to display the tabs in numerical form or directly using notes. And here there is also a very unusual option for “playing along” the melody, when you have to get into the rhythm of the song being performed. The level of your “engagement” can be adjusted. Thus, it is quite convenient to learn new melodies, gradually increasing your skill as a performer. The program also supports cloud printing and allows you to print notes to make it easier for you to navigate them. A fun bonus for you will be the sleep mode, which plays soothing melodies and turns off the sound when the timer expires. Yes, this option does not help in learning,

BaldPhone – Android launcher for the elderly

BaldPhone – Android launcher for the elderly. Poor eyesight, age or illness of older people can be reasons why they will not be able to use modern smartphones. This is a serious problem for the market, and so far manufacturers do not offer normal phone operation modes for such cases. However, we have a way out, because we have found an interesting solution in the form of the BaldPhone launcher. It will be an excellent option and a reason, finally, to refuse to buy push-button so-called “grandmotherphones”, whose workmanship and functionality leaves much to be desired.
BaldPhone – launcher for the elderly
With BaldPhone, you or your parents will be able to confidently use a number of functions that used to be hidden somewhere in the smartphone menu. In addition, BaldPhone offers additional functionality.

Baldphone interface
On the main screen there is a clock, a panel with notifications about taking medications, a flashlight, setting the sound level and information about the amount of charge. A little lower are buttons with access to the menu of recent calls, dialer, contacts. There are buttons for WhatsApp, Google Assistant, messages, photos, camera, video. At the very bottom, there are buttons for accessing the medication menu, a list of all applications and an alarm clock.
The dialer has an adapted interface. By the way, it (the interface) here is quite understandable and simple: the buttons are large, the text is bold and large, the icons are clear.
What applications have an adapted interface?
- List of recent calls;
- Menu with a list of active alarms and the ability to create new ones. There is also a timer button here;
- Creating an alarm clock with the ability to delete and edit;
- List of notifications;
- List of medicines with setting notifications about their intake;
- Keyboard;
- List of photographs.
Unlike conventional liners, BaldPhone even offers an adapted settings menu. In the upper left corner there is a red button to call the emergency service, and for users who do not understand the interface, the developer has prepared a special section with video instructions.
The BaldPhone developer approached the creation of the application responsibly and adapted many screens to this format. It was possible to get by with only the main screen, and leave the applications for viewing photos, alarm clocks and watching videos as native ones, but no, BaldPhone tried to adapt almost everything, and thanks to them for that. In addition, the application website has a link to the Arabic version.
Another nice bonus for many will be the fact that this is an Open Source project. That is, everyone can contribute to its development. For example, you can correct the translation into Russian if it seems crooked to you. You can also contribute to the development of the application itself and the site. You can also submit any ideas to the developer on Github, or simply support the project and become a patron.
There is even a dark theme and a built-in update system. That is, the application for updates does not even need Google Play services . Perhaps this is the future, because dependence on the services of large giants is not a very pleasant fact, the stronger decentralization, the less problems.
The link to the app was originally shared by Reddit user Slovantes. And here’s what he thinks about it:
I’m not the author, I just liked this app because I tried other “free” and paid solutions for my parents before and they didn’t work. Then I saw BaldPhone, it’s an Open Source project, I liked that it has a built-in update system, a simple gallery, I hope it gets good support among developers.
Total
We have an excellent and probably the only quality program for the elderly. And it is a pity that smartphone manufacturers do not pay due attention to this. We would like to see Google in Android 11 introduce a separate mode for the elderly, because you need to think about people of all ages.

This PWA app will help you control your spending.

This PWA app will help you control your spending. How much do we spend per month? Surely there were situations when you asked for a loan from your friends, from neighbors, from subscribers on Twitter. This business is not very pleasant and makes you suffer every day just from the thought that you owe something to someone. The application “Heavy” (tzlvt) will come to the rescue . It will allow you to better control expenses by displaying on the screen the amount that you can spend per day. The peculiarity of the application is that it is available both on Google Play and the App Store, and on the web! You can install it using progressive web application technologies. I did just that.
When you open tzlvt, you will notice that the usual browser menu has disappeared, but the application itself works on the web without being installed directly into the device’s memory. This is where a certain uniqueness of such a solution is manifested – it is cross-platform and not tied to the operating system.
What is PWA?
This is a progressive web application. It is similar to regular websites, but offers additional features such as caching, notifications, and no browser interface. PWAs are fully supported by Google and have access to the smartphone hardware. As of Spring , all major browsers support Progressive Web Apps.
What can “Heavy” do? The settings icon is located in the upper right corner. By clicking on it, a menu will open in which you can select the amount of your monthly salary. After that, the application will calculate how much money you can spend every day. You can also specify the period for which it is planned to allocate the amount, which will allow you not to be tied to wages and months at all. The app is universal in this regard. For example, let’s enter 1000 dollars. In this case, we can spend 60 dollars every day for 30 days. We save the data and go to the main window.
Here we are met by the daily sum. After any spending, you must enter this data into the application using the keyboard at the bottom and press the orange button. Suppose we spent 10 dollars . Enter the value into the app and the daily budget is updated automatically until the orange button is pressed. If you click on it, the data will go into the spending history.
Let’s assume that we decide to spend another 100 dollars, but at the same time we have only 79 dollars left in the daily budget. In this case, the updated daily budget will appear on the screen. You may notice that now we can spend only 89 dollars every day. And this number will decrease if you spend more than the prescribed amount per day. If it turns out that we spend less, these funds will be distributed over all days and our daily budget will increase.
Separately, I would like to note a simple and convenient interface, which, however, can irritate the owners of Android devices due to the similarity with the style of iOS. It would be nice if the application allowed you to change the theme, because the dark option may not be to everyone’s liking. Of the benefits, it is worth noting the fast download. The app loads faster than regular websites. The reason lies in caching. After the first download, PWA applications can even work offline. This is their main advantage.
